THREE PIGS REROUTE
Kulshan Cycles rallied a great crew of 22 so we could complete the reroute of the really nasty section of the Lower Pig (Brick House). Considering it was spring break and the first real dry, sunny and warm weekend since last summer we were super stoked with the turnout. Thanks to Russ and David we found the culprit of the trail washout and incorporated it into the new reroute. Seems a long forgotten logging road crossed well upstream of the existing trail. After many a year the bridge collapsed into the stream and during this last winter of nasty storms it found a new route down the old fall line trail. The reroute now cuts out the last clay and mud section and goes through some really nice woods and by a huge 10 foot high glacial erratic. Mark Bellis and Chris Mellick put in some serious time on a really sweet dry rock culvert to keep the stream flowing smooth and in it's rightful banks. We also had a great crew working on a new puncheon bridge at the entrance of the new reroute to keep it nice and dry. Our goal with this section was to add some more trail, keep it dry and do it all with super low maintenance construction. As usual Zach at Kulshan fired up a good bunch of folks to come help out and thanks to Kae and Erik Mo who motivate their employees to get out and sling some dirt too. Breakfast goods and Little Caesars pizza kept us going till the route was done. Thanks to all the great volunteers the work turned out awesome and completes another needed improvement to the trails.
